Supporting Every Student's Journey

At the American School of Doha, High School Student Services ensures every learner is supported, guided, and empowered to reach their full potential. Through personalized counseling, academic and career guidance, and learning support, students gain the tools, confidence, and resilience to succeed—both within ASD and beyond graduation, as lifelong learners and global citizens.

  • Counseling

  • Learning Support

The High School Counseling program is dedicated to supporting each student and championing their path to success. Our key objectives include:

  • Fostering academic growth
  • Guiding career exploration and ensuring college readiness
  • Developing self-awareness and interpersonal skills

We achieve these objectives through a variety of methods, including:

  • Classroom guidance and educational instruction
  • Small group counseling sessions
  • Personalized student planning
  • Systematic support
  • Timely responsive services

Beginning in Grade 11, our college counseling program is designed to be proactive. We organize annual college fairs, Advanced Placement (AP) nights, and International Baccalaureate (IB) nights, with more than 50 colleges actively seeking to connect with ASD students throughout the academic year. Students are encouraged to meet with their counselors as often as necessary during the college application and transition process, ensuring that they have the support they need every step of the way.

The High School Learning Support (LS) program is tailored to provide enhanced academic assistance to students identified as needing extra help to excel in their core subjects. This support is delivered through small group instruction and in-class assistance.

Students engage with the LS teacher every other day for targeted support, which may involve:

  • Reviewing or introducing key concepts and skills
  • Additional practice in specific skill areas
  • One-on-one help with completing assignments
  • Extended time for completing assessments
  • Guidance on organization and time management

To promote self-sufficiency in learning, students also focus on developing organizational and planning skills applicable across all school activities. Throughout the year, they cover various topics, including goal setting, backward planning, self-encouragement, and effective test-taking strategies. The ultimate aim for students in the LS program is to become independent learners who can confidently advocate for their needs.

The LS teacher collaborates with classroom educators to ensure that the necessary accommodations are implemented within the classroom. These adjustments are clearly outlined in each student’s individual support plan.
